Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Compatty (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Compatty mobile apps and the website at https://compatty.com. Please read it before using Compatty. If you do not agree, do not use the apps or website.

Who we are

Compatty is a compatibility quiz service available as a mobile app and at https://compatty.com. We do not require a traditional account with your legal name, email, or phone number in order to play.

Privacy contact: hello@compatty.com. Use this address for access, deletion, and other privacy requests. This is the contact that should appear in Apple App Store and Google Play listings.

Information we collect

We process these categories of information:

Play data: the display name you enter, the 6-digit session code, answers you submit, custom questions you create and share in a session, and session status (who joined and who has answered).

Anonymous ID: the app uses a random identifier so you can join a session without a named account. It is not your email address or real name.

On-device data: language preference, saved past results, and custom question groups may be stored on your device so the app can remember settings.

Messages you send us: if you email us we receive your email address and the content of the message.

We do not require access to your contacts, camera roll, precise GPS location, payment card, or social logins to play.

Advertising partners may collect device and ad-related data as described under Advertising.

How we use information

We use this information to create and sync live sessions, show compatibility results, remember your language and local history, keep the service secure and working, respond to your emails, and show ads that help fund the free app.

We do not build a public social profile, and we do not use your quiz answers to create an advertising profile of our own.

Legal bases (EEA, UK, Switzerland)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process personal data under the GDPR / UK GDPR on these bases:

Performance of a contract: running the session you asked to create or join.

Legitimate interests: operating, securing, and improving the service, and serving ads in a non-personalized way where that is lawful without consent.

Consent: personalized advertising and use of an advertising identifier for tracking across apps or websites, where the law or Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework requires consent. You may refuse or withdraw consent. Refusing does not stop you from playing Compatty; you may still see ads that are less personalized.

Advertising

The app may show ads that help keep Compatty free. Ads are delivered by Google advertising services and their partners. Those services may collect a device advertising identifier, IP address, device type, and information about ad views, so they can deliver and measure ads.

Compatty does not sell your quiz answers to advertisers.

On iOS, tracking across other companies’ apps may require your permission in system settings. If you deny permission, you can still use Compatty; ads may be less personalized.

In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, you can also control personalized ads in your device settings.

Google’s advertising practices are described in the links below.

Where session data is stored

Active session data is stored on our cloud servers so everyone in a session can play together. Cloud providers process this data on our instructions to run the session.

Quiz answers in a session are visible to the participants of that session as part of the results. They are not posted to a public feed.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell your personal information for money.

We share data with service providers who help us operate Compatty (cloud hosting and advertising). Those providers may also process data for their own purposes, especially advertising, as described in their policies.

Under some US state laws (for example California’s CCPA/CPRA), advertising can count as “sharing.” We do not use your display name or quiz answers for that. Advertising partners may use a device identifier. You can opt out through the device settings listed under Advertising.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect Compatty or other users, or in connection with a merger or sale of the service, with equivalent protections.

Storage and retention

Session data on our servers is kept to operate live play and related support. We retain it only as long as needed to provide the feature and may delete inactive session data. Email us with the session code if you want a specific session removed.

Past results, custom question lists, and language stay on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall Compatty.

Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to handle your request.

International transfers

Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required (for example GDPR), international transfers rely on lawful transfer mechanisms. Details for advertising are in Google’s privacy documentation linked above.

Children

Compatty is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The app is intended for teens and adults who can understand a compatibility quiz. If you believe a child has provided data, email hello@compatty.com and we will delete it. We do not treat the app as child-directed under COPPA.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. In the EEA and UK you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise these rights, email hello@compatty.com. You can delete past results and custom question groups yourself in the app. Uninstalling the app removes on-device data.

We may need the 6-digit session code to find a session, because we do not hold a traditional account in your real name.

Security

Session data is protected in transit and access to a session is limited to people who have the session code. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. The current version is always published at https://compatty.com/privacy (and localized paths such as /ar/privacy). Material changes apply going forward from that date.
